DJ Red Alert:
FAVORITES
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Compiled by Tom Pryor
CDNOW Senior Editor, Hip-Hop
If there's one DJ whose career has embodied New York hip-hop it's the legendary Kool DJ Red Alert. From his decades-long tenures at New York's Kiss FM and Hot 97, Red has been the tastemaker who's nearly defined hip-hop. He was instrumental in the infamous battle between Queens' MC Shan and the Bronx's BDP and has broke acts as influential as Public Enemy and A Tribe Called Quest. As if that weren't enough, the man still makes his money the old-fashioned way -- spinning the one's and two's at clubs and parties. CDNOW took the occasion of the release of Red's Beats, Rhymes, and Battles, Vol. I compilation to find out his favorites.

Between DJ gigs, producing Chris Rock's latest album, and working on his upcoming side project, Handsome Boy Modeling School, Paul can only rely on his travel bag to let us know what's in his current album rotation.
